Chaplaincy Support Services
to the
University of South Wales
Embracing diversity. Celebrating faith.

Founded by five of the main Christian denominations in Wales, the Chaplaincy was established to share the love of God and the ministry of Jesus Christ in the everyday life of the University — not confined to church walls, but alive in lecture theatres, offices, meeting rooms, corridors, and conversations.
At its heart, the Chaplaincy is about presence: being there, listening well, offering compassion, and creating space where people feel seen, heard, and valued.
The Chaplaincy is an autonomous body working in a close and trusted partnership with the University of South Wales. As our relationship with the University has deepened over the years, and as evolving processes, policies, and legislation have required a clearer legal framework, the Chaplaincy was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation: Chaplaincy Support Services (Chaplaincy 360). The organisation is governed by its Trustees, and its ministry and operational presence within the University is led by the Head of Chaplaincy Services. Over many years, the Chaplaincy has built and sustained a trusted and valued partnership with the University
Chaplaincy
For more than 40 years, the Chaplaincy has faithfully and dynamically walked alongside the University of South Wales community — present in moments of joy and celebration, in seasons of questioning and growth, and in times of difficulty and loss. At its heart, the Chaplaincy is about presence: being there, listening well, offering compassion, and creating space where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Our Mission
University life is rich and exciting — but it can also be demanding, uncertain, and at times overwhelming. At the University, worldviews meet. Deep questions are asked. Assumptions are stretched. Faith can be challenged, strengthened, reshaped, or rediscovered.
The Chaplaincy seeks to be a steady and faithful presence — encouraging honest seeking, respectful conversation, and thoughtful reflection. We stand alongside those exploring faith, those wrestling with doubt, those carrying unseen burdens, and those simply needing a quiet place to breathe.
Our calling is rooted in self-giving love: to serve with humility, to care without judgement, and to accompany others so that they may flourish and discover life in all its fullness.
A Space to Pause
At the centre of our work is The Meeting House on the Treforest Campus — a warm and welcoming space set apart for hospitality, reflection, prayer, conversation, or simply stillness. Prayer facilities are also available, for people of all faiths, across the University campuses for those who wish to pray. A designated prayer facility is available on the Treforest Campus at which Friday prayers are held regularly.
We are privileged to support the University community in celebrating faith, marking cultural traditions, and honouring significant life moments — from beginnings to endings and everything in between.
We Are Here for You
Whether you are seeking support, exploring faith, carrying questions, or simply looking for a listening ear, the Chaplaincy is here for you.
Hear From Our Community
“Universities are institutions of knowledge generation and transmission and individual intellectual development. At the heart of USW is the Meeting House, a place for meeting others from different cultures and faiths, a place for reflection and thinking. Whether through formal events or individual engagement with the Meeting House team, visitors and regular users, both staff and students, are always welcome. Given its open and inclusive ethos I would suggest it’s our jewel in the crown.”

“I was introduced to the Chaplaincy by a friend. It has since become like my 2nd home. I spent much of my time there. I have made many friends from all over the world and felt very much at home. People are kind, friendly and welcoming. I am glad I found such a place and look forward to visiting it again. Thank you to everyone.”

“The Chaplaincy is a peaceful and welcoming haven for both students and staff, regardless of religious belief (or not). Its influence extends far beyond the walls of its building—reaching across all campuses and into the wider community. The Chaplaincy team offers compassionate support in moments that truly matter, whether it’s comforting a homesick student or being a listening ear for a staff member facing difficult news.
I’ve had the privilege of volunteering at several Chaplaincy events, including Iftar meals and Pancake Day, and each experience highlighted the warmth and inclusivity they foster. The Chaplaincy doesn’t just provide a space—it creates a sense of belonging and care that makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

Moving away from my family to start my postgraduate study put a huge stress and increased the responsibility on me.
When I started to come to The Meeting house every now and then for a short time and after that this MARVELOUS place became my favourite place in the Uni in fact in the whole UK. The Meeting House has a very dynamic environment and by volunteering in it I get engaged in different events I learned and enjoyed a lot from each one of them, I also interact with people of different ages, faith,
and background and that taught me how to accept the differences, respect all people and listen and learn. I found there all
the things that family offers like love, care, support, encouragement, valuable advice, lots of laughs, food, good times and of course unforgettable memories.
